IIM Calcutta MBA - Application Requirements

A selective two-stage admission cycle designed to evaluate academic credentials, leadership potential, analytical aptitude, and diversity mindset.

Eligibility & Academic Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD) from a recognized university
  • Final-year graduates may apply provisionally if official degree is submitted by December 31, 2025

Shortlisting for WAT & PI

Eligible candidates must appear for CAT 2024, meeting minimum cut-offs:

  • General category: QA ≥ 75%, DILR ≥ 80%, VARC ≥ 80%, Overall ≥ 85%
  • Different thresholds apply for NC‑OBC, EWS, SC, ST, PwD categories 

Shortlisted candidates are selected based on a composite score (total 85% weightage):

  • CAT score: 56%
  • Class X marks: 10%
  • Class XII marks: 15%
  • Gender diversity: 4% (awarded to female/transgender candidates) 

Points for Class X and XII academic scores are assigned tier-wise. For instance: ≥80% X = 10 points; ≥80% XII = 15 points

Final merit list is based on a weighted composite score (total 100%):

  • Writing Ability Test (WAT): 8%
  • Academic Diversity: 6% (bonus for non-engineering backgrounds)
  • Work Experience: 8% (based on months post-degree as of Jan 31, 2025) 

Academic Diversity Points are allocated based on degree mix (e.g., non-engineering bachelor = 4 points; law degrees, CA/CS/ICWA, multi-degree combinations receive higher weights) StratCAT

Work experience is calibrated:

  • ≤6 months = 0 points
  • 6–24 months = x/3 points (x = months)
  • 24–36 months = 8 points
  • 36–48 months = 26 – (x/2) points
  • 48 months = 2 points
