Prepare a complete application to showcase your academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to mission-driven business. All materials must be submitted via Yale SOM’s online application portal by your chosen round deadline.

Requirements

  • GMAT / GRE:
    Submit a competitive GMAT or GRE score. Yale SOM accepts both and has no preference. A strong quantitative and verbal score improves your candidacy, but there is no strict cutoff.
  • Essays:
    Yale SOM requires one essay responding to one of the following prompts (500 words):
    1. Biggest Commitment: Describe the biggest commitment you have ever made.
    2. Most Meaningful Community: Describe the community that has been most meaningful to you.
    3. Most Significant Challenge: Describe the most significant challenge you have faced.
      In addition, you may submit an optional essay to provide any additional context or information you feel the admissions committee should know.
  • Recommendation Letters:
    Two professional letters of recommendation are required, ideally from supervisors or colleagues who can speak to your leadership ability, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Video Essay:
    After submitting your application, you will be invited to complete a video essay exercise through Yale’s platform. This includes several questions to evaluate your communication skills, personality, and motivations. The exercise is timed and typically takes 15–20 minutes.
  • Interview:
    Admission interviews are by invitation only and conducted by Yale SOM alumni or admissions staff, either virtually or in person. Interviews assess your leadership potential, motivations, and cultural fit.
  • Other Documents:
    • Application Form: Complete the online application form accurately.
    • Resume / Curriculum Vitae: One-page professional resume highlighting your work experience and achievements.
    • Academic Transcripts: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
